Hammer
One
of the most obvious and mundane tools in the classic toolbelt set is
the hammer. HVAC technicians use hammers to do a variety of tasks. A
lightweight hammer is often the best choice because it is just one of
the many tools on the HVAC technician’s tool belt. The Stanley 51-112 7 ounce fiberglass hammer
is our recommendation. The classic Stanley yellow coloring makes the
hammer highly visible on the job site. Its fiberglass construction makes
it durable and strong. It also has an easy grip.
Screwdrivers
Every HVAC technician knows that no toolkit would be complete without a set of quality screwdrivers. HVAC technicians face many tasks that require screwing and unscrewing screws of all sizes. Whether it is working on the unit, vents, or thermostat, screwdrivers are essential to getting the job done.In our experience, Craftsman screwdrivers are durable and reliable. Tape Measure

Multimeter
Multimeters are the HVAC technicians’ go-to tool to keep from getting electrocuted. In essence, the multimeter checks for electrical current and determines if voltage is present. It is used to detect current at switches, wires, or outlets. This is one of the most important specialty tools that an HVAC technician uses. We recommend the Fieldpiece HS36.
Thermometer
HVAC technicians use thermometers regularly to determine the change in temperature. Temperature determines if a refrigerant needs to be added or if a piece of equipment is working properly. The thermometer used by HVAC technicians is a specialized tool and is much different than the thermometer that checks a person for fever. Cordless Drill
HVAC technicians use cordless drills on a regular basis. They need one that will be reliable and durable because it will be carried into attics and into crawlspaces where the real work is done. Manifold Gauge
The manifold gauge set is one of the most used specialty tools in the HVAC tool bag. This set is used to determine if leaks are present. They are also used when charging an air conditioner unit. The gauge is also useful during the removal of refrigerant. The analog gauges have been around for decades and are easily read and interpreted by veteran HVAC technicians. Extension Cords
Extension cords are tools that are the unsung heroes for the HVAC technician. HVAC techs are always needing to power up away from the electrical outlet or generator. Crimpers
The crimper and cutting plier tool can be used to cut sheet metal, wires, and to crimp the connectors. You can strip wire with them also. This tool is versatile and should be in every HVAC technician’s tool kit. We recommend the these from Thomas and Betts.
Awl
An awl is another useful tool for the HVAC technician. You can use the awl to score the sheet metal so that you can cut it straight. You can also punch holes in sheet metal, wood, or sheet rock when necessary. The Dasco Pro 431-0 Scratch Awl is our recommendation.
Staple Gun
A heavy duty staple gun is an often-used tool in the HVAC technician’s tool kit. Stapling insulation into place or stapling sheet metal are just two uses for this handy tool. We recommend the Stanley Heavy Duty Steel Stapler.
